One Family One Job Scheme: Who Can Apply, Eligibility, Benefits and the Truth Behind the Scheme

One Family One Job Scheme: The phrase ‘Ek Parivar Ek Naukri Yojana’ (One Family One Job Scheme) frequently circulates on social media and various websites, leading many people to believe that every family in India is entitled to one government job. However, the actual position is different.

There is no nationwide Central Government scheme that guarantees one government job to every family. Instead, similar initiatives have been introduced or discussed by some state governments in different forms.

What Is the One Family One Job Scheme?

The idea behind the scheme is to improve employment opportunities for economically weaker households by ensuring that at least one eligible member of a family gets access to employment.

The best-known example is Sikkim, which introduced a state-level initiative aimed at providing government jobs to eligible families that did not already have a government employee.

In other states, including Haryana, employment-related services are often mistaken for the same scheme, even though they primarily focus on job registration, counselling, skill development and connecting candidates with employment opportunities.

Haryana Employment Registration

In Haryana, unemployed youth can register with the Directorate of Employment to receive employment-related services. Registration helps candidates access information about government vacancies, job fairs, career counselling and skill development programmes.

However, registration does not guarantee a government job for every family.

Eligibility

Eligibility conditions may vary depending on the state and the specific programme. Generally, applicants are expected to fulfil conditions such as:

  • Permanent resident of the concerned state.
  • Age generally between 18 and 35 years, with relaxation for reserved categories as per government rules.
  • Applicant should be unemployed at the time of registration.
  • Educational qualifications should match the requirements of the post or employment programme.
  • Other eligibility conditions notified by the respective state government.

Applicants should always verify the latest eligibility criteria through the official government portal before applying.

Benefits

Although the benefits differ from state to state, employment-related initiatives generally aim to provide:

  • Employment registration services.
  • Career guidance and counselling.
  • Skill development and vocational training.
  • Information about government recruitment drives.
  • Participation in job fairs and placement programmes.
  • Access to various employment assistance schemes.

These initiatives are intended to improve employability and connect eligible candidates with available opportunities rather than guaranteeing appointment.

How to Apply or Check Application Status

Eligible applicants can apply through the official employment portal of their respective state.

For Haryana, employment-related services are available through the Antyodaya SARAL Portal and the Directorate of Employment. Applicants who have already submitted an application can use their Application Reference Number to check the status online.

Important Points to Remember

  • There is no Central Government scheme that guarantees one government job to every family.
  • Eligibility and benefits depend on the policies of individual state governments.
  • Employment registration does not automatically result in a government appointment.
  • Applicants should rely only on official government portals for registration and status updates and avoid misleading claims circulating on social media.

Before submitting any application, candidates should carefully read the latest guidelines issued by the concerned state government, as eligibility conditions and available services may change from time to time.
